Israeli Forces Shoot, Kill Palestinian Woman near Bethlehem

Israeli forces shot and killed, on Sunday, a Palestinian woman at a military roadblock at the eastern entrance of Husan village, west of Bethlehem in the southern occupied West Bank, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

Witnesses said the victim, identified as Ghada Ibrahim Sabatien, 45, a widowed mother of six children, was attempting to cross the military roadblock when soldiers opened fire at her, shooting her in the thigh.

Locals transported the injured woman to Beit Jala Governmental Hospital where she was pronounced dead as a result of the gunshot wound and a massive amount of blood loss, according to the Ministry of Health.

Crowds of mourners gathered at the Beit Jala Governmental Hospital, carried the body of the slain widow to her place of residence in Husan village, performed the funeral prayer and laid her to rest in the village cemetery.

The European Union, on Sunday, conveyed outrage at the news of the slain woman, in the following statement;

“Shocked by the killing of a Palestinian woman by the Israeli security forces near Bethlehem. Our deepest condolences to her family. Such excessive use of lethal force against an unarmed civilian is unacceptable. This incident must be investigated urgently and the perpetrators brought to justice.”

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) stated;

The Center reiterates its call on the international community to take immediate action to stop the crimes of the occupation, and renews its call for the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligations contained in Article 1 of the Convention, according to which they pledge to respect and ensure respect for the Convention in all cases, as well as their obligations contained in Article 146 of the Convention to pursue Accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention, knowing that these violations are war crimes in accordance with Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons and in accordance with the Additional Protocol I of the Convention to guarantee the right of protection for Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
