Israeli Forces Shoot, Kill a Young Man near Qalqilia, Injure Two After the Funeral


Israeli forces shot, at dawn Saturday, a Palestinian young man in Azzun town, east of Qalqilia in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

Local sources stated that occupation forces invaded Azzun town which triggered Palestinian youths to confront the army, leading to the shooting of the young man.

The slain young man, identified as Yahya Ali Adwan, 27, from Azzun town, was shot by Israeli forces in the heart with live ammunition and transferred to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Adwan was a former prisoner who had been detained by the army a total of four times, and spent seven years in Israeli occupation prisons.

Hundreds of mourners gathered, on Saturday, for the funeral of the slain young man, which began at the Darwish Nazzal government hospital in Qalqilia, and proceeded to the family home in Azzun town.

Mourners carried the body, wrapped in the Palestinian flag and the traditional keffiyeh on his head, to the Great Azzun Mosque to perform the funeral prayer, and finally to the martyrs’ cemetery where he was laid to rest.

After the funeral procession, Israeli forces attacked mourners in Azzun town and opened fire with live rounds, concussion grenades and tear gas, injuring two people.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) stated that Israeli soldiers shot and moderately wounded two young men with live rounds in their legs.

They were both transferred to the Darwish Nazzal Governmental Hospital in Qalqilia for further medical intervention.
