Israeli Forces Injure Dozens of Palestinian Protestors in the West Bank

Israeli occupation forces suppressed, on Friday, non-violent demonstrations rejecting Israel’s continued settlement activities in different parts of the West Bank, injuring several Palestinian civilians, according to local sources.

During the weekly procession in the northern West Bank village of Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqilia, soldiers fired rubber-coated steel rounds and tear gas canisters at demonstrators.

The army shot and injured four people with steel rounds and caused many others to suffer the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation, according to the media spokesman for the Wall and colonization resistance committee, Morad Eshteiwi.

All injuries were treated at the scene by local medics.

Palestinians burned tires in order to obstruct the view of the army, and hurled rocks with slingshots in self defense from the attacking soldiers.

Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) emergency and ambulance services, Ahmed Jibril, stated that soldiers shot two children, both 13-years-old, with rubber-coated steel bullets, and caused dozens more to suffocate on tear gas.

In the southern West Bank, Palestinians gathered to show their opposition to Israeli authorities’ decision to displace 12 Palestinian communities in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron.

Local Palestinians held a demonstration following the Friday prayer in the al-Martaba area in the Wadi al-Jawaya community, east of Yatta, according to Rateb al-Jabour, the local coordinator of the popular committees to resist the wall and settlements.

The army suppressed the protest, while declaring the area a closed military zone. No injuries were reported at the time of this report.
