Israeli Army Shoots and Kills A Palestinian Man, Injures Another Near Bethlehem


Israeli occupation forces shot and killed, on Thursday at dawn, one Palestinian young man and critically injuring another in the Dheisheh refugee camp, southwest of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

During a military incursion into the camp, which triggered confrontations with local Palestinian youths, which Israeli forces responded to by firing live rounds and tear gas canisters at protestors.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of 29-year-old Ayman Mahmoud Muhaisen and the serious injury of another unidentified man.

Muhaisen was transferred to the Beit Jala Governmental Hospital in serious condition, where doctors pronounced his death, shortly after arrival to hospital.

It was reported that the Israeli army deployed sharp-shooters who were stationed on the rooftops of civilian homes.

The slain Muhaisen was shot in the chest with live ammunition, while he was in front of his home in the camp, far from the confrontations, according to Qadri Abu Bakr, the head of the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority.

Abu Bakr added that the slain Muhaisen was a married father of two and a former prisoner who spent three years in occupation prisons.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral procession for the slain young man, while a number of them carried his body over their shoulders.

The funeral began at the Beit Jala Governmental Hospital, continued to the slain young man’s family home in the Dheisheh refugee camp, to the “cemetery of the martyrs” in the village of Artas.
