Israeli Army Causes Dozens of Injuries at Protests in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Israeli forces suppressed, on Friday, several non-violent demonstrations in various parts of the occupied West Bank, injuring many Palestinian civilians, local sources reported.

In Kufur Qaddoum village, east of Qalqilia in the northern West Bank, locals held the weekly procession to express their rejection of Israel’s continued illegal expansion of its colonies and the ongoing closure of the main road into the village.

After the Friday prayer, local Palestinians marched from the mosque to the main road at the entrance to the village which was closed in 2003, in favor of the illegal colonial settlers in nearby settlements, built on Palestinian lands.

Occupation forces opened fire with rubber-coated steel rounds and tear gas canisters, while Palestinian young men hurled rocks, burned tires, and threw back tear gas canisters toward the attacking army, according to Morad Eshteiwi, the media spokesman in the Qalqilia region.

Eshteiwi added that at least three young men were shot with rubber-coated steel rounds, while dozens more suffered the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation. All injuries were treated at the scene by local medics.

In Beit Dajan village, southeast of Nablus in the northern West Bank, the army suppressed a peaceful demonstration in rejection of the occupation’s relentless colonial expansion.

Locals performed the Friday prayer in the village, and proceeded to march waving the Palestinian flag and chanting, while occupation forces opened fire with rubber-coated steel rounds, concussion grenades and tear gas canisters in an attempt to suppress the weekly non-violent procession.

One protestor was shot and injured with a rubber-coated steel round, another sustained a burn injury, presumably from a tear gas canister, while dozens more suffered inhalation injuries after exposure to tear gas.

According to the head of the Emergency and Ambulance Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Ahmad Jibril, all injuries were treated by their medical crews at the scene of the protest.

Meanwhile, Palestinians demonstrated in Beita town, south of Nablus city in the north. There were no reports of any injuries.

In the southern occupied West Bank, dozens of Palestinian civilians suffered the toxic effects of tear gas in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron, according to a local activist.

Mohammed Awad stated that local youths protested the military incursion which Israeli forces responded to by firing tear gas canisters and concussion grenades at the youths and residential homes, causing dozens to suffer inhalation injuries. They were all treated at the scene by local medics.
