Israeli Forces Suppress Weekly Anti-Colonization Protests in the Occupied West Bank

Israeli forces suppressed, on Friday, a number of anti-settlement protests in various sections of the occupied West Bank, injuring several Palestinian civilians, local sources reported.

Local Palestinians marched at the weekly procession in the village of Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqilia, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

Israeli forces fired rubber-coated steel rounds and tear gas canisters, shooting one young man in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet, and causing others to suffer the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation.

Palestinians have been demonstrating every Friday and Saturday since 2011, to demand the occupation authorities re-open the main road of the village that was closed to Palestinians in 2003, for the exclusive use of illegal Israeli settlers.

The closure of the road forces Palestinians in the area to travel longer routes to reach Nablus city, the nearest major commercial center, to the east.

In Beita town, south of Nablus in the northern West Bank, occupation forces suppressed the weekly anti-colonization demonstration, firing tear gas canisters, causing at least two people to sustain inhalation injuries, according to Ahmad Jibril, the director of the Nablus emergency services of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

Jibril added that fourteen Palestinian civilians suffered the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation when Israeli troops attacked the weekly anti-settlement procession in Beit Dajan village, east of Nablus.

Soldiers fired tear gas and concussion grenades in an attempt to disperse the crowd who chanted and carried the flag of Palestine.

Among those injured in Beit Dajan were a journalist, identified as Fadi Yasin, and a member of the Israeli Knesset who joined the march in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In related news, illegal colonial settlers stormed the natural water spring in Qaryout village, south of Nablus, under the full protection of occupation soldiers.

Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters at Palestinian civilian homes causing dozens to sustain inhalation injuries.

 In the occupied Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, many local Palestinians assembled to reject the planned displacement of several families in the neighborhood.

Several illegal colonial settlers disrupted the march and attacked the protestors, causing injuries which were treated by Israeli medics.

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states the following;

“The Occupying Power [ISRAEL] shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies [PALESTINE].”

“Individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive.”
