US President Meets With Palestinian President in Bethlehem, Israeli Police Suppress Protest in Jerusalem

United States President Joe Biden visited, on Friday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, while Israeli police assaulted Palestinian civilians in occupied Jerusalem, according to local sources.

Biden spent two days in the occupation state of Israel with its officials prior to meeting Palestinian officials, where they held a reception for his arrival.

Among the various pledges Biden made was the commitment to the so-called “two-state solution” along the 1967 lines, in addition to recognizing Jordan’s guardianship over the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem and the importance of maintaining the status quo.

The US President vowed to contribute $100 million to the East Jerusalem Hospital Network, and $201 million to the United Nation Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) which provide essential services to Palestinian refugees in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, in addition to Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.

In response to Biden’s visit, President Abbas thanked the administration’s dedication to the two-state solution and its commitment to harboring a strong relationship between the USA and the state of Palestine.

President Abbas made a point to call for an end to Israeli actions which violate international law, including home demolitions, settlement expansion, the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, and demanded justice for the slain Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

In a statement, the Palestinian President declared, “We have agreed with President Biden to work with his administration on many critical issues to advance peace, security, stability, and advance the Palestinian economy.”

In occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli police attacked, on Friday, a non-violent demonstration near the Al-Mutlaa Hospital in Al-Tur town, assaulting peaceful Palestinian civilians.

Protestors carried Palestinian flags, banners attached to helium balloons stating “Biden, You’re Part of Israel’s APARTHEID” and other signs which read “Justice for Shireen” and “Palestinian Lives Matter”.

Activists called for mass protests against the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) stated that Biden’s visit to the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt) “aimed at supporting the Israeli occupation state and attempting to integrate it into the region.”
