Israeli Forces Injure Dozens in Weekly Anti-Settlement Protests in the Occupied West Bank

Israeli forces suppressed, on Friday, a number of weekly anti-settlement demonstrations in the occupied West Bank, injuring dozens of Palestinian civilians, according to local sources.

In the northern part of the West Bank, occupation forces opened fire at Palestinian protestors at the weekly procession in the village of Kufur Qaddoum, east of Qalqilia, injuring dozens.

Local Palestinians gathered for the Friday prayer at the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque, and began their march towards the main street of the village chanting slogans against the occupation and its illegal colonization of Palestine.

Soldiers responded to the non-violent procession by firing rubber-coated steel rounds and tear gas canisters at the demonstrators, according to Morad Eshteiwi, the media spokesman for the Qalqilia governorate.

Eshteiwi added that soldiers shot and injured six young men with steel rounds and caused dozens more to suffer the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation.

All injuries were treated at the scene by local medics.

Palestinians from Kufur Qaddoum and surrounding villages have organized weekly marches since 2011 to demand the re-opening of the main road leading into the village.

Israeli authorities closed the road to the indigenous Palestinian people in 2003, for the benefit of the illegal Israeli colonists in nearby settlements.

The closure of the road forces Palestinians in the area to travel longer routes to reach Nablus city, the nearest major commercial center, to the east.

In Beita town, southeast of Nablus in the northern West Bank, Palestinians gathered near Mount Sbeih to express their rejection of the continuous expansion of illegal colonies on occupied Palestinian territories.

Local youths held the march after performing Friday prayer and proceeded to burn tires which soldiers responded to by firing tear gas at the non-violent demonstrators.

Last year, illegal colonists set up an illegal outpost on top of Mount Sbeih, and after months of protests by local Palestinians, they were forced to evacuate.

Meanwhile, in the village of Beit Dajan, local Palestinians stood in the face of the occupation army, in a peaceful manner to object to the ongoing settlement activities carried out by the Israeli state.

The army fired rubber-coated steel rounds and tear gas canisters, causing dozens of inhalation injuries.

Furthermore, in the southern West Bank, south of Hebron, locals and international activists took part in a non-violent protest against the occupation, which soldiers responded to by assaulting participants.

In Al-Tawana village, part of the collection of communities known as Masafer Yatta, many activists carried Palestinian flags and marched to protest the Israeli schemes to forcibly transfer hundreds of Palestinians from their homes in the area.

It was reported that Israeli forces assaulted a number of activists, causing varying degrees of injuries.

Finally, in the center of Hebron, in the Bab Al-Zawiya area, Palestinian youths confronted the occupation army by hurling rocks at the heavily armed soldiers.

Soldiers stationed at the entrance to the closed Al-Shuhada Street, opened fire with live rounds, rubber-coated steel rounds, concussion grenades and tear gas canisters, causing dozens to suffer the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation.
