Israeli Forces Shoot and Kill a Palestinian Child, Injure Others near Ramallah

Israeli settlers and soldiers attacked, on Friday, a non-violent procession condemning Israel’s colonial schemes in the central occupied West Bank, killing a child and injuring several others, according to local sources.

In Al-Mughayyir village, northeast of Ramallah, in the central West Bank, armed illegal colonial settlers, under the full protection of the Israeli army, attacked the unarmed Palestinian protestors, killing a child and injuring others.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that Amjad Nashaat Abu Alia, 16, was shot in the chest with live ammunition during the peaceful procession, stating that the boy was killed by the army.

The critically injured teen was transported to hospital where he succumbed to the serious gunshot wound in his chest.

Some colonists were also armed with automatic weapons, therefore it is unclear at this time which group is responsible for the death of the child, the illegal settlers of the occupation army.

Soldiers fired tear gas canisters, rubber-coated steel rounds and live ammunition at the demonstrators which included the popular resistance activists.

“Settlers attacked the event in the eastern region and attacked the participants, as the people tried to confront the settlers, while the occupation fired live bullets and gas bombs extensively.”

It was reported that at least one other young man was shot with a live round, while another was shot with a steel round, in addition to many others who sustained inhalation injuries from tear gas exposure.

On Saturday, thousands of Palestinians participated in the funeral for the slain child which began at the Ramallah Hospital to Al-Mughayyir village where the body was carried to the family home.

Relatives mourned over the slain teen’s body, and the funeral prayer was held at the local mosque, from there the body was carried to the cemetery in the village where he was laid to rest.

The Presidential spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh denounced the murder of the boy, stating that, “this crime comes within the framework of the daily series of killings that our people are subjected to, whether by the occupation army or its settlers who are wreaking havoc and murder under the protection of the Israeli government.”

Rudeineh appealed to the international collective to speak out against Israel’s crimes and to demand the punishment of the responsible parties, holding them accountable.

He called for protection of the oppressed people of Palestine, an end to Israel’s fifty-five year long occupation of the Palestinian territories, and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders.

The spokesman for the Islamic Resistance – Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip, Abdul Latif Al-Qanou, stated that this recent crime against the child Abu Alia exposes the criminal nature of the occupation.

He added that these acts will not discourage Palestinians from standing up for their lands and holy sanctities.

The Popular Resistance Committees stated that the martyr Abu Alia’s life will not be lost in vain, but rather it will strengthen the people’s resolution to defeat the occupation.

“The repeated Israeli arrests and killings committed against the Palestinian people reflect the Israeli confusion due to the escalating Palestinian resistance activities.”
