Palestinian Man Dies From Gunshot Wound Inflicted by Israeli Soldiers Near Salfit

A Palestinian young man was pronounced dead, on Sunday, after sustaining life-threatening gun-shot wound, inflicted by Israeli forces in the central West Bank town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has confirmed.

On Saturday, Israeli forces stormed the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, located west of Salfit, in the central occupied West Bank, sparking protests from dozens of local Palestinian youths who threw rocks at the invading army vehicles.

Soldiers opened fire with live ammunition, rubber-coated steel rounds, concussion grenades, and tear gas canisters, injuring five young men, two of whom were shot with live rounds in the chest and deemed in critical condition.

At least five Palestinians were shot with live rounds, including a teen, while others suffered the toxic effects of tear gas inhalation. The injured civilians were moved to local medical centers for intervention.

On Sunday morning the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that Mujahid Ahmed Muhammad Daoud, 31, one of the critically injured young men, succumbed to the severe gunshot wound he sustained on Saturday.

The severely wounded Daoud was shot in the chest with a live bullet and rushed to the Salfit Governmental Hospital. Later, due to the severity of his wounds he was transferred to Istishari Hospital in Ramallah, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Daoud was working as a plasterer on a home near a local medical center where victims of the occupation soldiers’ attack were being treated.

Daoud went to the medical center to investigate when a soldier shot him in the chest with live ammunition from approximately 25 meters away, despite the fact that the young man posed no threat to the lives of the soldiers.

Hundreds of Palestinian mourners gathered to pay their respects to the slain young man beginning at the family home of the martyr in Hares village, northwest of Salfit, where his family said their final goodbyes.

Mourners proceeded to carry the body of the young man, wrapped in the Palestinian national flag, on their shoulders, and roamed the streets of the village chanting slogans denouncing the immoral and unjust acts of the occupation army.

The funeral-goers arrived at the village mosque where they performed the funeral prayer, customary in the Muslim faith, and finally buried him in the village cemetery.
